What features would it have that would make it so perfect? How would this perfect closet benefit your child and make your life easier? These are all good questions to ask yourself before you begin a closet organization project in your nursery or child’s room. Determining how you want the closet to work for you can help you to make better decisions about how to spend your money and where. You don’t want to have this perfectly cute closet that is impossible to maintain. Use these tips and ideas to make sure that you are not wasting precious time and money when you organize your kid’s closet.

1) Think about how your child’s closet needs will change as they grow. Preparing for the future is a great way to make sure that your closet grows with your child and doesn’t require another big investment in the future. Adjustable shelving and oversized containers are great ways to be prepared for the extra bulk that comes along with storing larger and larger clothes. Using containers that only fit what your child has right now can mean that you will need to replace them before you know it.

2) Some things that you do to the closet are actually great for when your child is a baby or a teenager. When babies are little, there are plenty of things that need to be kept out of reach. Shelving up high in the closet is great for keeping dangerous objects and medications out of your child’s reach. These same shelves can be used when they get older for keeping games with little pieces or valuables out of younger children’s reach.

3) Lowering the hanging bar is useful for teaching children how to hang their own clothes. You may want to keep one section of bar up higher for nicer outfits or heirloom items that you don’t want them to have access to. When they’re older, they can hang things like robes, dresses, and long coats on the higher rod while keeping their shirts and pants organized on the lower rod.

4) Your child’s clothes may be subjected to kids playing in the closet for many years. To keep your kid’s clothing nice, you should use the right kinds of hangers. <a href="http://www.onlykidshangers.com"title="Infant Hangers">Infant hangersare great for little tiny clothes, while <a href="http://www.onlykidshangers.com"title="Children's Hangers">children’s hangers come in many different sizes to accommodate many different types of clothes. Baby hangers are great for baby clothes, but also for clothing with smaller neck openings. Stocking your kid’s closet with many different styles of hangers will help you to protect clothing and have many options for hanging as the years go on.

Kid’s closets can be harder to organize than an adult’s closet, but with these tips, you can set it up in a way that works for you and your child. Getting things to where a child can manage them is key. You will need to clearly label where things go and make sure that you have a special place for everything. Read on for more tips and ideas for getting your kid’s closet organized and easy to care for.

1) Make the closet an interesting place for your child. You can paint the door with pictures of things that they like. Paint their name on it or hang something to make it special. You can use a bulletin board to hang their art or school work. Let them decorate the door however they want. It’s okay if it doesn’t go with the rest of their room. You don’t have to keep it like that forever. You may even decide to take the door outside and let them paint whatever they want on it. Personalizing their space makes it more interesting for them to take care of it.

2) Put lots of hooks and containers within their reach. Label each one with what goes inside. Containers with open tops, like baskets, are great for organizing socks, underwear, hair bows, dance clothes, sports equipment, and more. If everything has a labeled space to go, it will encourage reading, word recognition, and will be easier for your child to clean without your help.

3) Consider putting a shelf about three feet off the floor. This will give you a great place to put bins, buckets, stacks of t-shirts, or pajamas. Underneath, you can have storage, a laundry basket, toy shelves, or just leave it empty like a little club house.

4) Children do well with things like shoe organizers. Utilize the space on the back of their closet door for shoes, hats, hair accessories, gloves, scarves or purses. Put plenty of hooks within their reach. Use hooks that attract them to the space. Big knobs are great for kids because they’re easy to manage and they don’t have pointy ends to poke them if they’re not paying attention.

5) Make space for things like board games, building blocks, art supplies, or other toys that have a lot of little parts. If you want your child to have to ask for these items to play with them, just put them up higher. This will keep them and their friends from dumping out too many toys at once, creating more for you to clean up.

6) Use <a href="http://www.onlykidshangers.com"title="Children's Hangers">children’s hangers, <a href="http://www.onlykidshangers.com"title="Infant Hangers">infant hangers, or baby hangers to hang their clothes. These are smaller hangers that won’t tear or stretch the necks and shoulders of their small clothes. They save space and are easier for small hands to manage. Once everything has a place, you and your child will enjoy keeping the space organized.

Does your kid’s closet look like a tornado went through it? Most kids’ closets do. It is hard for children to realize the consequences of rummaging through piles of clothes when they’re thinking about what they want to wear. Parents are acutely aware of how much work reorganizing is and probably catch themselves imagining the repercussions of just about everything that their child does or is about to do! It is time to find a way to help kids remember to keep their closets neat and organized.

1. Help them get the closet cleaned out. Kids have fun pulling everything out because they feel like they’re making a mess and they often will find toys and things that they thought were lost in the process. Pile everything into separate categories as you go. Toys, sports equipment, costumes, blankets, dirty laundry, shoes and books are common piles for a kid’s closet.

2. Involve your child in deciding what should go into the closet. It is generally not a good idea to put toys in with clothes, but if you separate them properly, it can work. Some parents like to install a deep shelf about waist level in the closet. Kids’ clothing is generally small enough to hang from the bar without touching the shelf. You can put baskets or bins on the shelf to organize socks, underwear, belts and pajamas. Try to hang all of the pants and shirts on <a href="http://www.onlykidshangers.com"title="Children's Hangers">children’s hangers. Baby hangers can be used for smaller items and they won’t stretch the shoulders out.

3. Use a shoe organizer to keep shoes off of the floor. You can either put a crate or toy bin in the room and keep shoes out of the closet, or you can use an over-the-door rack. Some parents like to keep a shoe bin or shoe organizer in the mudroom or entryway to the home so that dirty shoes aren’t tracked all over the house. This also keeps all of the shoes in one place, making it easier to get out the door on busy school mornings.

4. A laundry basket or bin is a great thing to put under that shelf. All dirty clothes should be thrown into the basket. It will hopefully be one of the only things on the floor of the closet, so if some clothes miss, it is easy to throw them in when it’s time to do laundry. You don’t want dirty clothes mixed up with toys, so decide if this is where you want your basket. Avoid hampers or other bins with tops, because kids will not take the time to open them.

By letting your child participate in the organization of the closet, they will get a bigger sense of pride. Make it fun by having races to see who can hang the most shirts the fastest. Let them use the infant hangers so that manipulation is easy. <a href="http://www.onlykidshangers.com"title="Baby Hangers">Baby hangers are actually a great tool when it comes to teaching your child closet organization. Praise your child when they take care of their closet and you might even try a reward system for a tidy space. Just remember to have fun with it and hopefully the excitement about the clean space will last!
