Getting children’s rooms organized can be a bit of a challenge for most parents. You may be able to keep toys and their parts separated into buckets, but that doesn’t mean that the kids won’t immediately come in behind you and dump them out! Getting things organized in a way that makes the whole room work is the key. Keeping like items together and toys with parts in separate areas is the first step. Then, making other aspects of an organized room work, like laundry, clothing and bedding, is the next step. Learn how to do all of these things in a way that works for you and your child. Follow these tips to help you be on your way to having a long-lasting organized room.

1) Minimizing the number of things your child can dump out is a good place to start. Once you have game pieces in the right game boxes, consider putting some of these items up high on a shelf or in the closet where your child will actually have to ask for them to get them out. You can keep some things down low and then periodically swap them out with the things that are up high. This way, there aren’t too many things out at once that can be dumped and become an organizing parent’s nightmare.

2) Keep things with parts separated, too. Don’t put your blocks, games, puzzles, and other items with a million small pieces all in the same area. This is just asking for disaster. Kids don’t usually go far with the things that they want to play with. If they have a small table next to their games, they are likely to play the game there. If they have a rug beside their bin of blocks, chances are that’s where they’re going to dump them out. Try to divide the room into sections like this so that the things that do get dumped don’t get mixed up or lost.

3) Another thing to think about when organizing a kid’s room is maintenance. Using hampers and laundry baskets, possibly in several areas of the room, can help to cut down on how much laundry ends up mixed with the toys. Make it easy for kids to put their clothes inside. Avoid hampers with lids. Use basketball goals or whatever you need to make it a little more interesting to put the laundry inside. Give your child rewards for helping with the laundry. They can even hang clothes themselves with easy-to-handle <a href="http://www.onlykidshangers.com"title="Children's Hangers">children’s hangers, <a href="http://www.onlykidshangers.com"title="Infant Hangers">infant hangers and baby hangers. Plus, the more they hang, the more room you have in their dressers and drawers to organize and put away some of those toys.

Pieces and parts of games and toys get mixed in with trash and dirty clothes. It can be hard to keep up when little hands are always going behind you and undoing what you’ve already done! Another problem with kids’ rooms is that the décor can become outdated. Children grow so fast and their interests evolve with them. Those baby ducks may be outdated by the time you child hits one. So, updating their room and giving it a new organizational make-over may be in order. Use these helpful hints to get your child’s room organized, updated, and easier to straighten up when the time comes.

1) If it’s time to update, then you’re in luck. Using movie or cartoon characters can motivate your child to participate in the organization. For example, they may ignore your laundry basket, but love that hamper with their favorite character on it! You can get static cling wall stickers to decorate the room without repainting. You can use buckets and bins to help get things together. Put stickers of the character on the bins to help motivate your child to actually use them. This is an inexpensive way to encourage your child, expand the theme of the room, and make everything come together.

2) Make sure that you purchase the right sized bins and baskets for the items that need to be stored. To start out, clean the room the best that you can. Separate all of those action figures, doll accessories, cards, game pieces, and blocks into separate piles. This will give you a good idea of what size containers you need, which ones need lids, and how many to purchase. Write down your measurements of each pile so that you get a container big enough, but not too big. You don’t want it to take up any unnecessary space.

3) Plan for a system that will work for your child. Having a lot of bins stacked up with lids may sound great and look organized for about an hour! Lids actually encourage children to get the toys out. They want to open the container and dump everything to get to the toys. Using open containers that are wider than they are deep will help them to realize that they can see what’s in there without dumping things out.

4) Use shelving or tables to organize the bins. You can divide the room into a reading area, a baby doll area, a building area, and an arts and crafts area. Put the containers into the corners of the room that correspond with the station, and they are way more likely to stay in that area. Then, if they do get dumped out, they shouldn’t get as scattered and it’s much easier for your child to get them put back away.

5) Organize the closet so that you can keep some things out of reach, and possibly get rid of that bulky dresser. You can even get <a href="http://www.onlykidshangers.com"title="Children's Hangers">children’s hangers that have your child’s favorite characters on them if you want to teach them to hang up their clothes. Use small infant hangers or <a href="http://www.onlykidshangers.com"title="Baby Hangers">baby hangers so that they are easy to handle and won’t damage their clothes. When your child’s room is spruced up and in order, it’ll be a more productive area and a joy to play in.

Most parents feel like their kids have too many toys. Toys can easily get out of control. Our children get toys for Christmas, birthdays, and all sorts of other special occasions. They also outgrow them, so there’s always a need to buy more. When things get too cluttered for your child to even see what they have, all of that money spent on toys can go to waste. Cluttered toys do not make a child want to play with them. Things end up broken and lost. Use these tips to quickly clean your child’s room all while getting things organized in a way that makes sense.

1) Start with the big stuff. Stuffed animals, blankets, pillows, big balls, and other large toys should be cleaned up first. These are the things that will take up the most space, so you’ll need to find room for them first. You can easily arrange smaller toys around the big ones later, but it is difficult to make room for big things once the little things are put away. Plus, putting the big things away first is easy for your child and helps them to quickly see the progress that is occurring in their room. You can make a game of how fast big things can be thrown into a toy box or bin in the closet.

2) Next, move on to the toys that are a little smaller, but that do not have small parts. Dolls, trucks, books, and other items that can be stored in bins or baskets, or on shelves are easily picked out of a pile of little pieces. If possible, group like items together. Loud toys in one section, quiet toys in another, or however you decide might be easiest for your child to keep up with. Use shelving whenever possible. Toys that can be easily seen get played with more and are easy to put away. Label the space on the shelf with the name of the toy to make it easier the next time.

3) Now on to the little things. Containers with lids that close are great for keeping game pieces, miniatures, puzzle pieces, hair ties, and blocks separated from each other. Try to scatter these items around the room so that if your child does decide to dump them out, they won’t be close to each other. Keeping all of the little things together in one area can lead to another giant pile of pieces!

4) Another common problem in children’s rooms is laundry. Make it easy for your child to put their own laundry away. Lower shelves and hanging rods can make it much easier, plus you’ll free up some space above for games and other items that you don’t want dumped out. Teach your child to use infant hangers, <a href="http://www.onlykidshangers.com"title="Baby Hangers">baby hangers, or <a href="http://www.onlykidshangers.com"title="Children's Hangers">children’s hangers that fit their clothes. Being smaller and easier to handle, they are way more likely to use them than other types of hangers.

Most kids’ rooms end up looking like disaster areas in no time. It can be overwhelming to keep up with it all. Kids are constantly accumulating new things and their rooms can get out of control. You probably feel like their rooms are overfilled to begin with, and then they get interested in something new or start up a new hobby that really puts it over the top. Controlling what goes in and what comes out of the room can be a big help. Teach your children how to value their belongings and keep things more organized at the same time.

1) First you need somewhere to put all of those big stuffed animals, extra pillows and blankets. Using a large toy box, armoire, or plastic containers that fit under the bed is good idea. Designate the area for large items only. Part of the reason that kids’ rooms can get so messy is that they don’t have an easy place to put certain things. If cleaning up is hard, they just won’t keep up with it, and neither will you. Tossing things into a large container or area is easy. Teach your children that when they clean up, they should start with the big things and work their way down to little things. Getting the big things out of the way first makes it feel like the job is going faster because you can see immediate improvement.

2) Kids need to learn to appreciate the fact that they have nice things and that they should take care of them. You can’t expect them to always put everything away, but you can teach them to respect what they have by helping them to “thin the herd” of toys that they keep. Every time your child gets a new toy, have them go through and give an older toy to charity. Hold the new toy ransom until the room is clean and organized. If something is missing parts or is broken, throw it away. They will feel like all of their best toys are in good shape and have a place to go.

3) When you get down to the little things, help your child make piles of like items. Building blocks go in a pile, hair accessories, cars, baby dolls, and other small items should be separated. Then, label containers of appropriate sizes for each thing. Put them in the containers and you’re done.

4) The last part of keeping a child’s room organized is the closet. You can keep things like board games that get dumped out in the closet so that the pieces are not lost. If you child wants to play a game that they can’t reach, you can have them clean an area for it first. Make room in the closet for special toys and games by getting the clothing organized. Use <a href="http://www.onlykidshangers.com"title="Infant Hangers">infant hangers or <a href="http://www.onlykidshangers.com"title="Children's Hangers">children’s hangers to make maximum use of the space without damaging clothes. Baby hangers are also easier for kids to handle, so they’re more likely to help you when it’s time to put laundry away.

Kids’ rooms can go ignored when they are out of sight.

Busy Moms know how quickly the nursery or kids’ rooms can turn into a disaster area. You can clean, organize, rearrange, and restock, but it just seems like no time before the nursery is back to its disorderly state. If your nursery seems to turn into a danger zone more quickly than you can handle, use these tips and tricks to get it organized in a way that will help you and your kids to keep it more organized. This is not to say that you’ll never have to clean again, but it will make the maintenance of the room much more manageable and less time consuming.

Start by separating the things that you have in the nursery to organize. You will most likely end up with three major categories; clothes, toys, and supplies.

Supplies are things that are for parents to use for the maintenance of the child. For instance, diapers, towels, sheets, monitors, thermometers, and other essential baby items. These things should be kept out of baby’s reach. You need to create a special place for these things so that they don’t end up putting the baby in danger or cluttering up your flat surfaces. Small shelves inside of the closet can keep these things out of sight and out of reach. You may also decide to install some prefabricated cabinets that can later be used for books and board games.

Toys will most likely be your biggest daily challenge. This is especially true if your child is very young. Sometimes dumping out the toys is as fun as playing with them! You need to come up with a system that allows you to quickly clean up so that you don’t take even more time out of your busy schedule.

There are lots of toy organizers that seem wonderful, but take a lot of patience to use. For example, a stuffed animal chain that hangs from the ceiling with clips seems like a great idea for keeping stuffed animals off of the floor, but it takes forever to hang them all. Try a net instead. It’s so easy to toss stuffed animals across the room and have them land quickly in the net. Kids love it and will be happier to help you clean. Little solutions like this will make it easier and faster to clean.

Clothing is usually the next big hassle. Babies and toddlers can have so many clothes that it’s mind boggling. If the closet is not ready to handle all of those tiny clothes, then they just end up in a giant laundry heap. Utilize shelves, baskets, bins, whatever you can find to keep tiny clothes easy to manage.

You will need separate containers for socks, body suits, training pants, bloomers, underwear, t-shirts, shorts, blankets, burp cloths, teething rings, and more. Cubby systems are extremely helpful, or one large shelf that houses multiple open buckets will make it easy to toss things straight from the laundry basket into the appropriate space.

Use <a href="http://www.onlykidshangers.com"title="Infant Hangers">infant hangers or <a href="http://www.onlykidshangers.com"title="Children's Hangers">children’s hangers to keep baby clothes from being stretched and damaged. You can get ones that have cartoon characters on them or other kid-friendly designs that will encourage your little one to help keep laundry where it goes. Baby hangers are small enough for kids to easily handle and also help when it comes to saving space.

Toys! It is so fun to give them a lot of toys on Christmas morning. The wonder and excitement in their eyes is so fun to witness. Christmas day can give you and your family memories that last a lifetime. But, after a while, the reality will set in that you have nowhere to put all of these new things! Unless you can find space for them, the parts and pieces will soon be scattered around the house with everything else. You need to prepare by making space ahead of time, so that you don’t spend Christmas worrying about where you’re going to put everything.

1) Start by taking an inventory of what you have purchased. You will need to prepare a special place for things that have pieces and parts so that they don’t get lost. For example, if you are giving your kids board games, then you might want to install a shelf in their room specifically for board games. This way, they have somewhere to go. They’ll be easy to find when the kids are ready to play, and it will be easy to toss in game pieces as you find them around the house, as you inevitably will! You may even decide to put in a small game table next to the shelves so that the kids have somewhere to sit and play. This way the games never make it far from the shelf.

2) Get rid of the old before the new comes in. Kids outgrow toys so quickly. Find toys that they have outgrown and pack them up. If you are saving them for younger or future children, you need to have a storage plan. Designate a shelf in the garage or a spot in the attic for these toys. If you keep them out, they are likely to get broken and they just take up so much space. Take all the toys in the house and separate them into piles. If something is missing too many pieces, get rid of it. If something just never caught your kids’ attention, give it to a child who will enjoy it. Take this opportunity to teach your children about sharing and charity.

3) The toy box can be a real challenge. Most are just a big container that can be useful for organization, but is most often used as a receptacle for quick room clean-ups. Designate these bigger containers for big items, like stuffed animals that won’t get lost at the bottom. Place containers like baskets and bins around the house for containing and organizing toys.

4) Get the rest of the kids’ rooms in order by getting their closet really organized. Hang their clothes on <a href="http://www.onlykidshangers.com"title="Infant Hangers">infant hangers or children’s hangers whenever possible. Baby hangers help save space in the closet that can be used for other things, like shelves, drawers, bins and buckets. The closet is a great place to make room for toys that need to be stored.

The playroom can quickly become a disaster area! But, with a little planning and creative thinking, you can set up your child’s playroom in a way that helps both of you keep it straight.

The first thing is to come up with a “stations” plan. Think of a preschool room. There is an area just for reading, one for painting, one for eating, you get the picture? Now, if you do this at home, it helps your child learn where everything goes. Plus, if you do it just right, you can make it fun for them to keep it straight. Another bonus is that when you go to clean, everything is near the space that you created for it. Here’s how you do it.

If possible, use physical barriers to section off areas of the room. An L-shaped bookcase is perfect for creating a reading area. Let one or both sides of the bookcase surround a corner or section of the room. Fill the space with cushions, pillows, stuffed animals or comfy chairs. Label the area with a sign that says, “Brayden’s Library” or “Susan’s Quiet Place”, whatever you can think of to communicate to your child that this is the area for books and relaxation. You can further encourage them to stick with the plan by letting them use a special lamp or light in this area. Just make sure that it is cool to the touch, unbreakable and safe for children.

On the same side of the room as the reading corner, you might want to put a desk or table for other quiet activities. Puzzles, clay, art supplies and board games can be stored in this area. To protect your carpet, put down a rug or office chair mat. Use interesting items from around your home to keep art supplies in. A clear sugar bowl can be used for beads. A decorated coffee can is great for markers. Restaurant style sugar shakers make great yarn and ribbon dispensers.

The next area can be for louder activities. Video games, electronic toys, tools and other noisy items should be kept near each other. This is helpful for playrooms that are used by more than one child. Section off a loud area with upholstered chairs to absorb sound and corral kids into one area.

The last section should be for gross motor toys. This area is best kept near the closet if possible, so that you can store tunnels, tents, slides and small trampolines in the bottom section of the closet. Kids will have to put one item back to play with another because there won’t be much room if they don’t! To make a playroom closet accommodate clothing too, build a shelf below the hanging clothes. Children’s clothing doesn’t hang down far anyway. The shelf can be used for bins of socks or underwear, stacks of t-shirts and for storing other normal closet items. The big area underneath will be great for putting big toys away and out of sight.

Keep the room more organized while teaching the kids how to clean up after themselves. Make a game of guessing where things go. Asking questions like, “Where do you think a loud toy like this would belong?” will help kids to generalize information and apply their knowledge to figuring out the correct answer. Let them use the <a href="http://www.onlykidshangers.com"title="Baby Hangers">baby hangers or infant hangers in the closet to put away their own laundry and keep that area neat as well.

When you get everything set up for success, you can concentrate more on helping your child succeed in keeping the playroom organized.
